Custom built robot, 2 monitors, chains.

DEAR HUNTER is a system of three installations. Using mostly readymades, it reveals intersections between hunting and surveillance.

wilderness, longing & feedback, pathos in chains

A robot controlled by a microprocessor is crawling towards his own field of view. The attempts to move forward are so helpless and pathetic, that the chains attached to the floor act not as a tool of holding back a savage beast, but as a security mechanism which helps it to survive – if the “newborn” creature could move freely, it would soon cut of its umbilical cord of energy and optic nerve.

Time is on my side

Record player, socket, thread, boxes

The tone arm of a record player is fixed with a thread, so after one turn, it jumps out of the track and back to its original position. The resulting loop is the first part of the refrain of „Time is on my side“ by the Rolling Stones. Over the period of the exhibition, the record became more and more scratched, resulting in a more and more distorted sound.

The „Hohe Strasse“ in Cologne leads right to the Cologne Cathedral and is one of the most-frequented shopping streets in Germany. There, i payed homage to the biblical character „Moses“ who parted the Red Sea in the Book of Exodus – walking forward, away from the camera with arms stretched out (thus forming a cross) and barrier tapes in my hands. Moses freed his people, my intention was to free the view by parting the crowd of shoppers and creating an empty corridor, an exodus of sight. To me, one of the most interesting aspects of the performance was how frictionless the crowd adapted to the situation, a direct reaction to the authority of barrier tape.

Möglichkeit eines Modells: Vogelsang 1-4

Die Architektur der NS-Ordensburg Vogelsang abfotografiert, als 3D-Modell (in Google Sketchup) nachgebaut und per Software-Algorithmus in ein (un-)mögliches Papiermodell übersetzt.

Ausstellung im Rahmen des Achitekturfestivals plan09 an der KHM Köln.

Ich bestücke mich mit Rauchmeldern und versuche sie mittels Zigarettenrauch in Gang zu setzen.

“Apprentice jockeys have been known as “bug boys” because when thoroughbred racing took off in the United States after the Civil War, the jockeys really were young boys. In researching three books on jockeys, Ed Hotaling found evidence of 9-year-olds riding in competition. “Back in the 19th century,” Hotaling said, “you threw as small a kid as you could on a horse.”

4 kinetische Skulpturen im Rahmen des Open Source Festivals in Düsseldorf – ich baue Jockeys nach und setze sie auf die Galopprennbahn.

Bevor die Roboter die Regie übernahmen, wurden sie im Rahmen des Rundgangs an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln auf Herz und Nieren getestet (Gallerie auf flickr).

Auf einem Platz am Rhein stehen vier Taxifahrer vor ihren Fahrzeugen. Die Taxis stehen mit laufendem Motor in einer Reihe nebeneinander wie Rennwagen an der Startlinie, jeder Taxifahrer hat ein Funkgerät.

Alle bekommen nun gleichzeitig ein Ziel im Raum Köln genannt, zu dem sie in Gedanken „fahren“ sollen. Ohne sich körperlich von der Stelle zu bewegen, sollen sie danach die Strecke gedanklich nachvollziehen, und das möglichst in der Zeit, die die Fahrt wirklich dauern würde.

Nach dem „Erreichen“ des Ziels „fahren“ sie wiederum zurück zum Ausgangspunkt, und steigen anschliessend in ihre Wagen.

Überwachungskamera-Attrappen auf Gehörnbrettchen, Tapete aus Zielscheiben. Masse variabel.

Die Überwachungskameras sind Attrappen – also ausgestopft. Welcher Körper zu dem montierten Kopf gehörte, bleibt der Fantasie des Besuchers überlassen.

kriechroboter, 2009
Selbstgebauter Roboter, 2 Monitore, Ketten. Dimensions variable, ca 3*5m

Ein Mikroprozessor-gesteuerter Roboter kriecht auf seinen eigenen Blick zu. Die im Boden verschraubten Ketten, mit denen er festgemacht ist, dienen angesichts seiner ununterbrochenen, aber hilflosen Fortbewegungsversuche weniger zum Zurückhalten eines gefährlichen Tieres, sondern vielmehr als Schutz eines quasi neugeborenen, orientierungslosen Wesens – falls es sich frei bewegen könnte, würde es bald seine Nabelschnur der Energiezufuhr und Sehkanal unterbrechen.
